Guest registration in Catalonia: reporting to the Mossos d'Esquadra

This is information, not advice. It summarises what the official sources say and links to each one. Before acting, confirm the details on the Mossos d'Esquadra portal or with your gestor.
The essentials
In Catalonia, guest data goes to the Mossos d'Esquadra. The obligation is national (Royal Decree 933/2021), but accommodation located in Catalonia meets it through the Mossos Registre de viatgers, not through SES.Hospedajes.
The deadline is 24 hours. Each guest's data is sent within 24 hours of the start of their stay. According to the portal's own FAQ, the booking is also reported, with the same 24-hour window.
It is online only. Reporting is done in the Mossos application, with a username and password you receive when you register the property.
Records are kept for three years. They must be available to the Mossos d'Esquadra on request.
Who has to do it
Anyone who lodges guests for a price: hotels, rural houses, tourist apartments and habitatges d'ús turístic (HUT), including private owners. What decides whether you use the Mossos portal is where the property is, not where the managing company is registered.
How to register
- Fill in the PI-15 registration form on the Mossos d'Esquadra Registre de viatgers portal.
- For a HUT, give the Catalan Tourism Register number (NIRTC) and a phone number available 24 hours a day.
- Register each dwelling separately. If you manage several dwellings for the same owner, each one needs its own registration.
- With the username and password you receive, you can start reporting arrivals.
What data is reported
The annex to Royal Decree 933/2021 sets the list. In short:
- For each guest: full name, sex, document type and number, date of birth, nationality, address, phone and email, and the relationship when a minor is travelling.
- For the booking: reference, arrival and departure dates, number of guests and payment details.
Guests over 14 sign the entry form. The property holder is responsible for the data being correct.
What happens if you do not comply
Failing to report within the deadline is a serious infraction under Organic Law 4/2015 on public security, with fines from 601 to 30,000 euros.
By hand or with software
With one dwelling and few stays, it can be done by hand on the portal. Many property management and online check-in tools send the report to the Mossos automatically. If you already use one, check that the Mossos connection is switched on and your establishment code is set correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Do I use SES.Hospedajes if my rental is in Girona?
No. For accommodation located in Catalonia, reporting goes through the Mossos d'Esquadra portal. SES.Hospedajes is the Ministry of the Interior platform for the rest of Spain.
How long do I have to report an arrival?
24 hours from the start of each guest's stay.
Do I need a separate registration for each dwelling?
Yes. Each habitatge d'ús turístic needs its own registration, even with the same owner.
How long do I keep the data?
Three years.
